Four guest rooms in a gorgeous restored villa with a perfect location between the Miraflores center and the sea. For newcomers to Peru, Hotel de Autor (also known as Autor 1) could be the perfect home base for an introduction to the capital city of Lima.

Listed in the Guardian newspaper as one of the 10 best B&Bs in Lima, Autor 1 excels in homey hospitality. “Home meets hotel” is Autor’s tagline, in fact. The attentive owner and staff work hard to ensure that this property straddles that wonderful middle ground between feeling at home and providing the comforts of a hotel.

Staff are friendly, caring, knowledgeable of Lima, and full of spot-on recommendations for guests no matter what their interests.

At Autor 1, you feel as if you’re staying with a host who really cares that you get the best experience of Lima in whatever amount of time you have.

Clean white walls inside the hotel match the house’s bright exterior. Common areas and rooms are artistically designed and full of interesting books, maps, vintage prints and artwork. Guests rave about the gourmet breakfast served in a colorful converted garage on an antique door turned dining table. When the weather is nice, the rooftop patio is a great place to relax with views over the bustle of Miraflores.

The two remaining rooms feature claw-foot bathtubs for a relaxing soak after days spent exploring. Bathrooms are spotless and more spacious that you might expect.

Autor 1 is situated on Avenida 28 de Julio in a small cul de sac with several homes. Guests say that nights are notably quiet despite the central location. Parque Kennedy and Larcomar (on the Miraflores coast) as well as the top restaurant Central and Maido are each just a 5-10 minute walk away. The heart of bohemian Barranco in less than 15 minutes by taxi. In short, if you are seeking to take the pulse of Lima’s hot spots, the hotel’s location can’t be beat.

This review of Autor 1 kicks off our new “Homestyle Hotels in Lima” series. We are profiling boutique-minded properties with a low number of rooms designed so that guests enjoy a personalized trip to Lima.
